Chicklet Basket with Lynn Goldberg

Saturday, September 14th 10 am – 3 pm

Join us at the League of NH Craftsmen – Meredith Fine Craft Gallery on Saturday, September 14th, 2024 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm for a Chicklet Basket Class with juried artist Lynn Goldberg.

In this class students will learn to make their own “Chicklet” basket. The name of the basket is “Chicklet” because it is a small version of a hen basket. This small hen basket made on a 6” wooden hoop is constructed with round reed “ribs” and woven with flat oval reed and embellished with sea grass or yarn. Once the students have stabilized the top of the basket they will have the opportunity to add their own design to make it their own. In this class students will learn the basics of basket weaving on a wooden hoop to create a Chicklet basket of their very own.

About the Instructor:

Lynn’s primary interest in basket making is the rib style basket. She has been making baskets since the early 1980s and teaching and selling them as well since that time. She is a member of the National Basketry Organization, Northeast Basketmakers Guild and a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen. Her work has been exhibited by the NBG and the Handweavers Guild of America and is sold by shops in NH and CT. Lynn’s baskets incorporate several different materials such as sea grass, cane, jute fiber and both flat and round reed. Sometimes she uses colored reed mixed with natural ones. She likes to use grapevine, honeysuckle and mountain laurel for the handles, using the natural bends.

Students must bring: A pair of scissors, an awl or screw driver, and an old hand towel. All other materials will be provided by the instructor.

Tuition is $45 per student with a $15 materials fee paid by cash or check to the instructor on the day of class.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Those who wish to take the class MUST sign up by Monday, September 9th.
